1940: Germany invades Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and France.
-France is taken over within weeks Winston Churchill becomes Prime Minister of Great Britain. The battle of Britain begins. -This was an air battle between the Luftwaffe and the Royal Air Force. The Blitz begins. -This was an 8 month period during which Germany bombed Britain every night. 1941: Operation Barbarossa -Germany's invasion of the USSR The Final Solution is proposed and put into action by Heinrich Himmler. -This was the Nazis' plan to kill all 11 million European Jews in Nazi death camps, their biggest death camp being Auschwitz. |
1943: Axis powers surrender in North Africa
The Casablanca Conference is held between Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. -It is decided within the allied powers to invade Italy through Sicily. Tehran Conference is held between the allied powers. -It is decided to invade German occupied France. Operation Overlord is put into action. -In this operation, the Allied Powers invaded German occupied, Eastern European countries. 1944: June 6th, D-Day -This was the day that the Allied powers began to invade and take back France from Germany. October, Battle of the Bulge. -This was the major offensive victory for Germany against the Allied powers in France. 1945: Yalta Conference -This was a conference between the Allied Powers in which it is decided that only an unconditional surrender would be accepted from Germany. Mussolini is captured and killed by the Italians. April 30th, Adolf Hitler commits suicide in Berlin. May 7th, Germany surrenders to the Allied Powers. May 8th, 1945: VE day, this was the victory of the Allied Powers in Europe. |
