Rise to PowerJoseph Stalin's rise to power began when he joined the communist party in 1903, he later became the editor of Pravda, a Bolshevik newspaper in 1912. In 1917 Stalin was the Commissar of the Nationalists, and in 1922 he was the Secretary General of Communist Party. Stalin stayed out of the spotlight and instead put supporters in positions of power before others noticed. Vladimir Lenin Grew to distrust Stalin but in 1924 Lenin Died. Stalin rose to power by quietly getting rid of his opponents. By 1928 Stalin was fully in power

Once in power Stalin ended Lenin's New Economic Policy and forced farmers onto collective farms owned by the state. Farmers were forced to hand over all produce, and starvation was very common, between 1932-1934 5 million people starved. He also made Gulags, which were slave labor camps. Between 1934-1938, purges happened and at least 7 million people 'disappeared'. He had very strong Propaganda and he was a Totalitarian ruler(Totalitarianism is where the government controls every aspects of the citizen's lives). Stalin hated Fascism and he saw war with Germany was inevitable, so he decided to make a Non-Aggression pact with Germany in 1939. Stalin was the most successful Dictator in Europe and remained in power until he died of natural causes in 1935. in 1945 started to become into ballet
