Benito Mussolini
Rise to PowerMussolini's rise to power began in 1915 when he switched from socialist to fascist when the Italians decided to join the allies. After this he gained control of the press as editor of Il Popolo d'Italia. Then, he created the Blackshirts which restored order to cities with violence. Finally, in 1922, Mussolini started the march on Rome which he used to demand power for the Fascist party, and with the support of Kin Victor Emmanuel III became Prime Minister of Italy. Once in power Mussolini demanded that king Victor Emmanuel III made him temporary dictator. Once he was dictator, Mussolini outlawed all political parties other than fascism, created secret police and put emphasis on Italian self sufficiency.
